No Man Is An Island, One of Us, Quiet Landscape.

Hey Anuli, saw your work at DdG last Saturday. Fantastically colourful, even more so than before. Talked to two ladies of the Gallery. I said something like: “It all looks perfectly obvious, and yet I can’t work it out.

Something’s going on but I don’t seem

to be able to put my finger on it. All kinds of thoughts are spinning round in my head, but at the same time it’s just pleasant to look at.

A multitude. A plain jar with a lid,

infinite gaze on the horizon, loving embrace. I think it’s very clever, this balancing on the kerb along the ravine

of the street. I don’t see decoration anywhere, but there are many decorative elements. No story, but a confrontation”.

Got to read Edo D.’s newspaper article* as well.

This is in line with your work, as far as I’m concerned:

“I’m reading it back now and am gradually returning in my own train of thought, albeit with some distance. The last I saw of your work was in the Goethe Institute. The spot in the picture in the top left corner is my finger. A detail, but not irrelevant.

Might be the touch in your work that is easily overlooked.

Wrote a birthday card for you, after a turbulent but intimate night in the pub, with my dear F.

There was this lady behind the bar, the owner poured the drinks, a man was speaking with a slur, his wife kept him in line, a group of men was on a stag night, the illegal cleaner was singing a song, and so on.

Characters like figures in your paintings: impersonal, stylized and iconic.

In wonderment, everything is beautiful.”

No Man is an Island, One of Us, Blak Landschap.

Hey Anuli, zaterdag je werk gezien

bij DdG. Enorm kleurrijk, nog meer

dan voorheen. Twee dames van de

galerie gesproken.

Allerlei gedachten draaien in mij rond,

Verwonderlijkst is alles mooi."
